Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a metallic green colored wood-boring beetle, is an invasive pest that attacks ash trees. It has been affecting ash trees throughout many areas of the United States since its introduction from Asia in 2002.
EAB has four stages of life. Beginning as an egg that is deposited by female adults into the bark crevices of ash trees, a larva is hatched from the egg, the larva feeds and grows under the ash tree's bark, then pupates after creating a chamber in the ash tree's sapwood. The beetle chews its way out of the ash tree.
The adult beetle lives for only a few to several weeks. The ash tree is damaged during the stages of growth. Read through some useful information about emerald ash borers.
